Reverse 911-
Our town put in a reverse 911 last month. Got 2 calls today. #1 House was broken into in the SW part of town. Guess i have to lock my back door for the first time in 38 years. Sign of the the times.
#2 Black bear sighting at the bottom of my street near the woods. Thought they would be hibernating this time of year. Musta been the 50 deg temp we had last weekend.

Spence, it's a good system as they can call with an emergency message and alert the whole town with one recorded call.

The only one I ever got was by the town telling us that everyone in our area was being evacuated from the beach area due to a high tide, new moon, storm flooding.

If it bothers you too much to get these calls you can have your number deleted from the system.

I kept getting calls for this kid at my house, same last name, but I have no kids, and I called the number back and spoke to the very same lady at the school who left the message a FEW times and explained to her that my wife and I have no children and you are calling the wrong household looking for this kids parents. She kind of got a little pissy.
I recieved another call, so this time I call the superintendent's office. I explained what has been going on and that I was going to call this students parents and inform them that the school doesn't have the right number in case of emergency or in any case and that I informed your people of these erroneous calls three prior times before this phone call today. She actually became huffy. This same woman, spent $250,000.00 dollars on redecorating her office just to stick it up the towns breezer, because she new she was retiring at the end of her contract, even though the rest of the school is falling apart. Oh yah, by the way, the school got my number from the police department's 911 call list, because my number is unlisted thats the only place they cpuld find it. Too bad thats illegal giving out your number from the 911 listings.

Swimmer - Since you informed them a few times, next time I got the call I'd act scared and say your going to go look for them and then hang the phone up and not answer it again if she called back.

It is a great system but it seems to have a few bugs.
In our town we have one for the school and one for a citizens alert.
Last year a home was broken into and we received no less than 16 calls.
From the town and the school system.
This started at around 10 AM and continued until they caught the man in the early evening.
They locked down the schools, would not let the walkers walk and delayed release of the kids.
IMO they went overboard, scared the kids out of their minds and had parents in an uproar trying to get their kids home.
Now we were all wondering if this was going to happen every time a crime was committed.
It hasn't happened again so maybe they listened to the uproar.

It finally did stop after the call to the Super's office. I would have been pissed if that was my kid whose number the school didn't know.
