Horrible news
For me at least. I was trying to stock up on Gibbs canal specials yesterday (not the new pro series, but the old ones). I couldn't find them anywhere. I ended up calling Gibbs Lures and they told me they will now only be making the pro series. Even though the new ones have better hardware (tripple splits and VMCs) and eyes, it throws their flight off, and I'm probably losing ten to fifteen yards on my cast. Many times that lure gave me that extra edge, and people that have fished with me know that it was my go to lure. It is a sad day for me, but all good things must come to an end, and there is more than one way to skin a cat. I might start loading Gags sea specials or something. I'm meeting Pete L. after work today to test out some that Al has made for him. If anybody has any old white canals they don't want anymore shoot me a PM.

Hopefully they didn't change the Twisted Tea recipe, that would be too much to bear on one man.

I'd assume the body is identical. If so, then weigh an old and a new....are they close? If not, then cut the wire and pop the tail weights out ....are they the same. If not, add some weight (either drill for a larger weight or wrap lead wire...fly shops have it). If they are, then likely the eyes are affecting the aerodynamics........pop them out and epoxy the holes flat with plumbers epoxy. Replace hooks with cut VMC's. It won't be pretty, but it should cast the same.

Not to mention, they float. Gibbs CS plugs sink like a rock, and there's no way you can keep one on top if you throw upcurrent at a breaking fish in the Canal.
Oh yeah--they're also about 7 bucks cheaper
Try Mike T's 3-1/2 oz pencils if you're even down Wareham way.
There are better made, better casting pencils than Gibbs CS nowadays.

Trust me they are the same..If they are not casting as good change out the splitring on the tail.Get rid of that triple split ring and get some size 6h rosco's.Them big Owner split rings are good also.Make sure the treble folds right against the belly of the plug..This is important.
