Cutting a surf rod to make a cod rod?

I just trimmed a conventional stick to make it a jiggin rod for an upcoming cod trip. Its now 8'3", not sure how it is going to work, it has a great action on it, but im concerned at the length of the butt, 25". Anyone ever try it? Its got a ton of backbone.

Everything is better on the rocks.

Shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully, you didn't cut too much and ended up with just a pool cue. A lot of cod rods are built on cut down surf blanks.

if you put the rod under your arm, you should be fine. but, 25" is a long butt. you may want to trim the butt in time. if you are on a charter or party boat and mates or other anglers are moving behind you as you fish and the area is tight, the rod butt will get hit often.
