Block Island Shore/Surf Guide?

Hey there guys,

Does anyone know of a surf/shore guide on Block Island?

Looks like the vehicle ferry is full, and I have never fished it before. I was hoping to find some fish and cut the learning curve a little...$$ trip to not catch anything (like I do normally)...

Thank you,

Chris

Chris,
There are no guides on the island I am aware of.I think you will will have to learn the island the way most of us have. The hard way.

PS. Read posts on this site about the island.Write down spots.Go out with a vehicle and a buddy.Get a map at the Star Dept Store. If they are not open,go to the airport, see if they have a map, have a coffee and ask a few questions. You will be on your way.

Spend some daytime hours scouting the island. Stop by Twin Maples in the New Harbor area, buy a lure, and talk to John, who has free maps of the island and may suggest a spot or two. Set out before dusk, work and area, and move on if it isn't productive. Some of the beaches on the east side are very easy to fish as are the coves on the west side. Most of the island is accessible, although some areas require more effort. You should find fish.

Any rock pile that sticks out, any points, any jetties, and areas of high current exchange are where I always find fish....

Hey there guys,

Thank you all for your help. I ended up calling John at the Twin Maples... he hooked me up. Although, I doubt I will be able to go...I think i will need to spend my BI $$ on a trip to Philly to see my familia in december.

Argh, I have always wanted to fish BI in the fall...

Maybe next time.

Thank you, again, to all for your tips and help.
Have a great, safe weekend out there. Looks like i'll be fishing in SoCo...

just returned from block a few hours ago... fished the afternoon friday, and all night, into this morning... Strong se wind... water is a bit dirty (sand) in a few spots in close... limited success... was hoping for fish similar to august... I think the fish are definitely still around, just need some more ideal conditions... not saying theyre not there, just saying I didnt find anything too big... ( a few keepers) Stinky ink is still out there til tuesday...
