LL Bean

When LL Bean moved into town my wife went crazy. It seems like I was there every weekend and we were paying 5 X as much for stuff I could get cheaper. My wife insisted it was worth it because of their 100% guarantee. Whatever....sounded like crap to me.

So....2 years ago for Christmas, she gets me this LL BEan Polartec waterprrof fleece. it was nice and kept me dry while fishing. But after the first season, the zippers corroded and I could not use them. basically became worthless. Of course I made the sarcastic "i told you so" comment to my wife and it sat on top of my dresser for a year. A few weeks back we were heading near LL Bean and I figured I bring it in so they could tell me to pound sand, no receipt, salt water....blah balh , some excuse.
Well, without batting an eye, the LL Bean lady brought me to where the news ones where, slighlty different style, but bascially the same. She had me pick one out, and then went back to the register. I was already blown away that I was getting a brand new one, no questions asked, then....she looks up the price on the computer and she knew it was from Christmas 2007, so she says it went for $89. the new ones are only $69. She does some stuff and then hands me a gift card for $20....are you freakin kidding me! So I get a new jacked ant $20 bucks back after 2 years. I am impressed and now sold on LL Bean.

I am a big fan of the place for many years. Pretty much not a day goes by that I don't have something made by them on, especially this time of the year.

I buy a lot of stuff from Bean online because of the guarantee and the quality of most of their stuff. I've sent back boots that were 4 years old and they sent me a new (similar) pair for free. You can't beat the way they stand behind their products, and the customer service is usually excellent.

Same here TDF.

Me too. It really must be a lost leader item. I don't know how they make any money.
Waders are pretty trashed and disgusting after 2 seasons.
The last time I returned them I had to pay $10 more for an even better pair.

With the LLBean coming into town, I've been thinking about getting my rain gear and next pair of waders there.

With all these excellent customer experiences, I think my choice has been made.

That* is incredible. I always refused to go in there because I always felt like I was paying a 20% premium for just the LL Bean name. Actually, I have a backpack from there that's probably 6 years old with the seams separating. I'm wondering if I shouldn't bring it in.

Bring it in, no questions, if yes, ask for Andy the store manager.

The only time they have refused an item was when a dude returned his hunting chaps covered with deer blood and gore, claimed they were stained and couldn't remove it.

Always beeb a great company to do business with.

A really great time is to go up to Maine to their store and sign up for their introductory courses. Its like a half day thing and they supply all the equipment etc. You have fun and learn. they do these intros to try to get you to sign up for the full blown multi day courses which I am sure are good but much more expensive.

i did a trial in their trap shooting and one for fly fishing. the trap shooting I got to shoot about a $1500 shot gun all morning and for the fly fishing I was the only guy in the class so since I already knew the basics we got into advanced stuff. Both were great and well worth the money.

I did both the trap shoot class and the afternoon trap open. Best 70 bucks I ever spent
