Plugfest 2010 contest plugs
We should have a quick discussion on what to set up for a contest if we have one this year.
Tagger and I spoke about everyone making Flaptails and maybe that could be an idea for best representation of a classic
anything to add? let's discuss it
I'll make a decision next week.

Something to honor Steve is a great idea.

Flaptail has meant alot to us plugbuilders and it would be nice honoring his memory with a major Flaptail build .. who wins ? who cares ? just that it happens ..

Great Idea
I'm in.
Maybe charge an entry fee for the contest and put the proceeds toward an organization Steve supported?

then auction them off an use the proceeds as needed

I like that idea, but maybe give the builder the option of donating the flaptail plug to a raffle and we raise funds for Steve's family.
I will make sure we have rolls of tickets for this and the door prize.
I'd also like to have a raffle of any other donations if that is feasible. I have stuff to put in and hope to have more come Feb.

For the usual contest we have every plugfest, how about if we only have 2 categories? I think that would be enough. And for voting, maybe limit those also to keep it simple.

I would like to suggest if we could call the prize for the best plug the "Steve Shiraka award" in honor of Steve as he was such a plug aficionado.

PlugFest should always be PlugFest......but it will always miss Flaptail. Honor him with the Flaptail plug contest and name the "Best of Show" award after him!

Bruce,
I totally agree on dedicating it to Flap. I think if you want to enter a plug into plugfest this year, there should be a mandatory flaptail made. And those flaptails will go into a flaptail category all by themselves. I also think that only entrants should be able to vote.

I think this category would be fitting to be named after the tall guy. I know how much Steve luved the old school stuff. It is by far my favorite.

He did! He loved the vintage stuff! Might be cool if the entrant showed an example of the original along with the replicated plug!!

Took a look at the old threads and these are the categories we had last year. I bolded 3 I think need to be a part of plugfest. Though I do like having the several categories as it encourages people to build things that are out of the box. I think one way or the other a decision should be made on what categories are going to be included so people can get to building.
Best first year builder
Best representation/restoration of a classic
Best of show
Best hand carved
Wall Hanger
Most likely to catch a cow on its first cast
Novelty plug

I would think we keep at least most of the same categories, at least in spirit maybe combining some.
Best overall
Rookie Plug
Best Classic - homage to / restoration of - Steve was big into rebuilding old and dilapidated classics too. Interesting he won it every year (though tied for it some times)
Novelty Plug
We've generally varied the categories but these above I think best inspire the fest.
When you pay admission you get a ticket for door prize AND your simple voting slip and only those slips will be taken for the vote - that should keep it more simple
Just My Opinion
I'll pretty much support what is best (or what Slip tells me to do).

Could make it the Flaptail award for the best classic plug.

Bruce
I have a question. For the flaptail can we put a flaptail on another style of plug (ie surfster or spook) or do we have to stay to this
original flaptail style?
