Iwata Revolution BCR or CR vs. Ecliplse HP-BCS
Hi All,
I'm thinking about getting an airbrush and like the idea of the blast caps, so a bottom feed seems like the choice. Do any of you have comments regarding the Iwata Revolution series (BCR or top feed CR) vs. the Eclipse HP-BCS?
Never having airbrushed before, I'm having a difficulty determining which is more appropriate for plugs, Createx paint, easy cleaning, and whatever else you consider important.

top feed..less wasted paint...easy to clean..only need a few drops of each paint when doing multi colors....less air needed..no bottle to fall off onto the floor.
bottom feeders are good for alot of one color and production stuff where they don't need to change out cause they have 6 guns ready to go, one for each color.
I hate bottom feeders.

bottlom feeders is a pain in the arse.the clean up of the bottles is a total mess,i went with gravity fed[Top] and i just feed it right out of the createx bottle,no mess preiod.i would never buy the bottom feeder again.

I totally disagree with both of you guys. I luv my bottom feed. I got one of each and find myself using the bottom feed more. Just goes to show you every body is different. If I'm painting 10 to 15 plugs and am doing all the same color, like pearl white bottoms then it makes it a snap. Cleaning is cleaning and both are the same in that aspect. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the replies so far!
Grapenuts - "less wasted paint" - why is that?
Surfflyfish - how do you feed from a top feed with a createx bottle? It looked to me that the top feed is basically a small cup.
ProfessorM, Gattafish, and all - what about the differences between the models I mentioned? Has anyone seen/used them and can differentiate?

If your spraying createx then get a top feed for doing small detail colors like spots, chins and some scale stuff,,,, Then a bottom feed for bigger quantity colors like whole lure bodies.. definitely more convenient. IF your doing lots of priming then I use a $14 detail spray gun...
The models you mention are both Very similar,,, revolutions are better with solvent based paints... a little overkill for createx....

top feed = smaller amount of paint and more of a finer detail gun as a lot of them usually come with a finer needles. You can buy finer needles for the bottom feeds too.
You can use color cups on your bottom feed to get pretty much same results as a top feed. I use the Badger color cups they will fit the Iwata. That way you buy one gun and use it both ways.

The bottom feed will probably not come with a very small dia. needle but I find it to be pretty much good enough for plugs. Everyone has their favs. like asking who likes Chevys who likes Fords.
BTW I have the HP-BCS and find it plenty good enough for anything I do. I also have a Peak top feed also and usually only use it for doing my stencils with black, still a good deal and a nice brush. Bear Air is where you will find them. http://www.bearair.com/
I got the Iwata and most of my stuff at Dixie Art http://www.dixieart.com/ but have not bought much of anything from either in a good 2 years so I am not sure they are the best deals around anymore. |

One question regarding the Badger cups. The link you gave shows many, corresponding to different models. Do they all work with the Iwata Eclipse, or only a specific one?

I use both ..I have a pair of Iwata gravity feed and a Badger cresendo 175.... ( I have a Badger 150 but hate the brush and no longer use it) .. I do base coats, pearlized paint with the badger, I do scales and fine detail with the Iwata... I keep a 5 gallon bucket with warm water near by for flushing between colors...

the 1/4 oz one. The one with the angled up tube, not the one that goes straight out the side. The angled up one allows you to slip into bottom tube on brush . One that went in straight would not allow you to attach from bottom and you would have very messy sneakers. You can usually buy the cups at Micheals or AC Moores so you may want to got there and get it just in case it won't work but I am almost positive there should be no problem as I have been doing it for a few years. Hope that helps |

LOL! I can picture it now. Thanks for the helpful information - it's great for someone who doesn't yet know what they're doing. And intends to keep their sneakers reasonably clean. Though it may go well with a tie-dye shirt ....
