for backwater spooks? Pine, ayc, or basswood??

They are all fine, AYC being the heaviest. Some guys like red cedar for spooks as well.

tough to make a bad spook ... i made some good catchers out of a soft maple board once .. pearl white with a splash of red ,, can't go wrong .. white pine,basswood ,,ayc ,, wht. red..ceadar ,,all good ..weight as desired ..

Dave,
I posted something on spook theory, I believe in response to someone's question on how to make spooks. If it is not here, it is on the other site. Might be of use to you when you make yours. Either that or reading it will give you a headache
