Garmin G2 recall
If you own a garmin GPS unit and use a G2 or G2 vision card be aware that Garmin has a recall going. Aparently theres an error in the software that has put a couple boats aground. I happened to see the notice on the Garmin site and did some followup by calling Garmin.
I own the 545s and it can be updated by downloading new software to an SD card and then inserting that card into the unit. According to the rep I spoke to at Garmin once you do that and try to insert the G2 card back into the unit it will pop an error code telling you that the G2 card has been recalled. You can then call or contact Garmin and they will tell you how to proceed.
If you've kept the original packaging you'll be able to give the card revision number to Garmin and they can verify if its one of the affected cards.
The groundings that set off the recall were in Sweden but alarmed Garmin enough to do some checking on their programs and that was the trigger for the recall.

How did the update go? I have the exact same unit and have the update downloaded and on the SD card ready to install. I just need access to my boat! Maybe in April. Looks like a major upgrade and change to the touch screens from the original version (2 yrs old).
I also have the BlueChart G2 card for the area but will worry about the recall later.

Yes the G2 blue chart card is part of that recall.
Heres the url for the information on the Garmin site.

Buzz I have the same problem you have before I download that upgrade. My boat is sitting in the side yard covered up so I have to wait for spring also.

I'll gladly write a card for you. PM me for my address to send card.
If you go to a place like Staples to buy the card (buy a 1 or 2Gb), card read/writers with USB are really cheap now.

Buzz has it right. I got a card and the reader for cheep money. I think the reader cost 12 or 15 dollars and the card wasn't much more.
If you don't want to go that route I can download to a card for you. Just get an SD card, I use a san disk 2gig. You don't need that much its just the only one that was available in the store I was in at the time.
