In my opinion, I am sure you would pick up some useful techniques from a lot fishing books. The main thing is to take what you read with a grain of salt! What works for one person / location may not work for / at another.

What I like to do is go to Borders Books and Music, grab a few books I am interested in, and head to the cafe. I get a nice cup o' joe and browse them.

Nuttin' wrong with reading. I browsed that book at B&N - not bad. Understand that NE saltwater surfcasting is a somewhat specialized subset of "fishing" in general.

I have a pretty extensive library of fishing books to keep me busy during the winter.

I think the one book that would be a really good companion to FFD is "The Compleat Surfcaster" by C. Boyd Pfeiffer. Lots of good tips from the bottom up in this book. I still refer to it at times. If you want to PM me your addy I'll mail you an extra copy.

I guess the hard part is adopting what stuff you find useful...and perhaps reading with a *critical* eye... filtering out stuff that may outdated, wrong, or even intentionally mis-leading.

Combine this with first-hand knowledge from the sharpies on this board, and time on the water - and you'll be unstoppable. (BTW, I'm a fishing dummy.)

As Fishwewee said , you'd be better off with a Saltwater Striper fishing book. There are many out there. Take Ben up on his offer to send you a striper specific book. I think fishing for dummies may be fun to read but its not going to be about striper fishing which has its own set of tricks.

One trip fishing with someone who knows what they are doing will get you into more fish and faster than reading any books. You just got to plan on coming to all our gatherings this season! From what I could see from the other thread , there are guys waiting in line to show you how to fish!

I am always trying to cram as much fishing info into my pea brain as I can...but nothing is as good as the real thing!
seriously....come to one of the outings and you will be happy you did! (and dont worry these guys are pretty well behaved....well except for one or two JOKING...I am JOKING!!! )

One thing to consider, after all of the books, & Internet sites, & How-To Manuals, & Shows, S-B Get-Togethers, etc... You really may want to consider an instructional shore guide service. I personally would recommend Bill & Juls Shore Fishing Guide Service as they do theirs as an instructional session and not a haul as many as you can to take pictures service.

They may also be doing a couple seminars at the MSBA show coming up in March and you may find it very interesting too.

I have yet to find any book that I haven't learned something from but then again I'm a bookaholic. Can never get enough of the printed material.
