Boy, that's some gift. Was Charlie Chute the guy with the big framed display of 20 or so full dress? If that was him, he's some tyer. Don't know which show you mean, but I was at the Marlborough show on Sunday, and attendance was pretty sparse. Not as many exhibitors as in years past. Sign of the times I guess.

YES, Marlboro Show, Charlie was moved to where Jack Gatside use to be at the end of the tyers row. 10% less VENDRS than last year.also the SAME AGE range are the only ones showing no JOUNG BLOOD is moving in. my Son does REALISTIC FLYS an BOB MEAD asked where he was, an I told him he said that theres no intrest in that type of tying at this show. to bad BOB felt alone there not meany guy to talk to, everyone just walks by. dosent look to good.
GOOD LUCK GOOD TYIN

Really enjoyed going to that show over the years. My brother and I even liked the ride up 495. You could look at the vehicle you were passing or were passing you and know they were on the way to the show. When I read of Gartsides passing that was the first thing I thought of, his spot at the end of the row. The first year I thought to myself that things weren't right was the first year SWE did not have a booth. I really like buying the odd colors of tails from them.

I've heard some rumblings lately that the big shows haven't been doing too well in recent years. Maybe the internet has something to do with it. There don't seem to be as many fly shops around as there were in the '90's. There's not much in this area any more unless you want to pay Orvis prices; it's either buy online or don't buy at all. When you get used to buying materials by clicking a mouse, driving 80 miles to get to a show doesn't seem as attractive as it used to be. The main reason I went was to hang out with friends I usually don't see in the winter. Alan Caolo mentioned that attendance was pretty good Friday and Saturday, but Sunday was obviously dead. If a vendor's paying $1500 for a booth and has only three days to make a profit, one bad day could kill them.
