I figure a few can relate
Quote:
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 27 — Fred Rogers, who gently invited millions of children to be his neighbor as host of the public television show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” for more than 30 years, died of cancer early Thursday. He was 74.

Wow, even though its been 30 years since growing up on his show, it's still sad...
So everyone remember the Crooked House? Well, its on Nantucket over at Smith's Point and we stayed across from it a couple times. One time when Schoolie Monster, his daughter and I were walking over to the beach one morning, Mr Rogers strolled up from the beach in a Tux and said hello and nodded.
Not a brush with fame, but a short memory of a genuinely nice guy that a LOT of us knew growing up...

I was sad to hear it this morning. Not the most colorful character but definitely a character! When my friends kids were small , we used to drive by his house on the way to Smith Point , nantucket and we would make a big deal about it every time we went by. "That's Mr Rogers' house! " The kids thought is was so cool knowing where he lived and driving by! .

Mike--imagine how cool it would have been to know you were driving by Salty Brine's house as a kid?
RIP Fred. One less decent chap in a sorrier-every-day world.

Kind of my thoughts also when I read the news Ditch.
I'd like to believe that maybe his legacy lives on in more than a few kid's hearts. Especially those who were raised in disfunctional homes in bad neighborhoods, who went too decrepid schools surrounded by mean as dirt peers. Fred Rogers may have been about the biggest dose of kindness they got in their daily lives.

I know what you mean Mike. Heck I'd still like to take a drive past Salty Brine's house!

even I find it sad that Fred died . I watched him growing up like most of us did . He was a little too much ( beyond todays reality ) but it was refreshing to know there were still some genuinely nice people left in this world . Now there is one less !
RIP Fred !

It was a kinder, gentler world back when I watched him as a kid. Wish we could turn back the clock. RIP Mr. Rogers.

I heard on the radio today that Mr. Rodgers was DI in the Corp. It is said he was the meanest sob DI there ever was. He left the Corp due to High Blood Pressure. An ex girlfriend of mine babysat some kids on vacation on Nantucket in the 80's. The kids saw Mr. Rodger and went running over to him on the beach. Mr. Rodgers response was less than Mr. Rodgerish if ya know what I mean.
