To bad except that the AGs office has been called in which means that there were drugs or booze or both involved.
Got to be STUPID to be on tha Bay at 2 AM drunk or F(**^ed up on drugs!
Allegedly they hit Despare Island and flipped over. There is a Green Can the size of a semi marking the channel. Despare Island is 300 to 400 yards West of the can. I mean DAMN, Hope Island and the 2 little island at the NE end is probably 1/2 a mile long. How the hell do you hit that?

What a shame. What was the visibility at 3AM?
Regardless of the cause , its sad thing to see people killed and hurt on a boat ride.

I was on the water at 3:30 AM this morning and it was crystal clear and flat as calm. I saw the blue police boat lights down the Bay as I came out of Warwick Cove but you always see lights because of Quonset. There wasn't a lot of chatter on 16 or any other channel as I have the VHF set for scan. Wife called my cell about 6 and asked if I had seen the activity which I had but, hell, I was into decent fish and wasn't paying a lot of attention. I was probably 2 miles NE of where the accident occured.

It's really sad.
I hate seeing people get hurt or worse. I see irresponsible boating all the time. This is a picture of a new (used) intrepid from last year. The boat was so new to the owner that it hadn't been insured or registered, yet. The owner's son (with some friends) hit a can at night outside of Wickford. People need to slow down out there until they have enough experience to know that they should slow down some more.

Everyone is fixated on going fast on the water today...It's time to set some speed limits, esp in bays and inshore waters. Boats with trips and quads to reach ridiculous speeds endanger all on board and other boats nearby...even on open water. I must be an "old guy" I aways go slower at night, even in good vis. (And I still am very uncomfortable running to the canyons at high speeds at night on other peoples boats. (but I doit because I love it out there so much) There is all kind of %$%$%$%$ in the water out there...huge partially submerged timbers, full trees, pallets and junk you could slam into and never see, not to mention sunfish)
I came across the sound the other night and one of the kids said...it took longer getting home tonight...well, that is because it's dark and I can't see a damn thing out there...The good news is your back safe.
IMO this case is not an accident, I think I would pursue manslaughter charges (maybe even murder), not to mention he stole the boat technically. (using something unauthorized is stealing) Take him for all he has and put him in prison for the rest of his life. Buh-Bye! ............
