new house = no fishing

This is my rant thread. Me and girl just closed on a house last week and it needs some serious remodeling. Were doing it ourselves. This house has taken up every second of my time. Since we bought it I havent seen the water. It killing me. Any of you guys go through this process. If so, how do I break it to the girl that im not working on the kitchen tonight, but im going fishing.

Sneak out after she's asleep. You might even pull one of my tricks, which is to fill up the good will jar by day, sleep 4-5 hours, then get up after midnight and fish until daybreak. You'll be home before she wakes up. Keep in mind I do this with a wife and two kids, so a spry young lad like yourself should have the system down in no time..

The house is easy, wait until she's pregnant with triplets.

I have to agree with back beach, my fiance and I closed on our house las month, so i just get up and go fish for a few hours before work. It makes for a long day but i cant think of to many better ways to start the day off. Just remember in regards to the house, you cant do all the work in one day.

What those guys said. Fish while she sleeps. I went thru it with family 2 houses, remodeling. You just have to suck it up and fish when she's out cold. You can live on 3 hours sleep. I'm 62 and living on 4 right now.

the Dragonlady has kept me very busy these last 12 years...complete remodel on our condo, house hunting, moving, and lots of work on our home....today I am washing all windows inside & out and planning a landscaping project......first things first...
my advice is like these guys said...fish from 12-6 a.m....or play hookey from work

oh ya....and if your tired and grumpy from lack of sleep...don't expect any sympathy...just keep your mouth shut

Go fish, you will be a miserable bastard if you don't. You also can catch some nice sunrise action for a few hours, grac a cup of Joe, and go to work.

Besides, tell the bride that your neighbors will get mean pissed if you start the power tools in the 2am -6am window anyway so you might as well fish instead.

Then there's having kids...

So in the meantime, you have work, work on the house, work on the house to keep the wife happy, work on the wife - you're young, you can do it all .

just don't do what I have done. Spend a good 2 years redoing everything, I mean everything. Then spend the next 18 years neglecting everything, fishing, and now have to do lots of stuff over. Just hope if you do follow my lead that it takes 18 years for her to discover the house looks like hell. Luckily my wife is even busier than me as I found it looking like hell 4 years ago but I wasn't about to bring it to her attention. You can do a lot of good fishing in 18 years.

Before or after you go stop at a supermarket that sells flowers. She will love them 5 dollar flowers. No vase! she is apt to throw it at you. And then even tho U will be tired from fishing, put a gleam in her eye.

I'll agree with BB,I too have 2 kids and re did my first home & it was a DUMP it took me ten years but I did it and was fishing when the wife & kids are sleeping

We just bought a really old house that needs a lot of work... Our deal is that the winter is for working on the house and the summer is for fishing... makes for quality workmanship and a happy marriage… it’s all about give and take…

J, Your in the same shoes now as a lot of us have been. Now that you're close to the water you can go just about anytime. Short trips. I found myself too tired to get out in the evenings so I ended up trying to get to bed early and fishing early morning hours. (Although I still much prefer evenings) Don't feel obligated to go all the time just when you can.

i was there three years ago... it gets better... there is a balance that you need to work out.

Keep in mind that the house is going to take time whether you take a night out to fish or not. If your girl is understanding, just explain that a night out fishing once in a while is good for your mental health and recharges your batteries. Also tell her to get out with her girlfriends once in a while so she doesn't get overwhelmed with the house stuff, too. I realized that the happier my wife is, the more I get to fish. It took me 8 years of being married to figure it out, but I get out fishing a lot more now and my wife never complains about me not getting stuff done around the house.

Good advice Ed, thats the thing, i feel "obligated" to go fishing when theres the right tide/wind, and you know it could be a good night, and you want to put your "real" obligations aside.

Luckily my wife likes the fish I bring home, so I can take off and go the the cape for a few days, and then head back to Silver Spring, MD with fish and lobsters.

As to sneaking and fishing, she will figure it out or think you are cheating on her. Be straight forward and tell her you will sleep less and fish for a little while.
