Top Rec To Make First Visit To MA Wed at MSBA

NOAA National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries to visit MA Striped Bass Meeting This Wednesday, June A in June

MSBA is proud to announce that this Wednesday, at the regular June membership meeting, MSBA will host the first MA appearance of Mr .Russell Dunn, the recently appointed and first ever NOAA National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries. Mr. Dunn is scheduled to address the New England Fisheries Management Council on Thursday June 24th in Portland Maine and has accepted an invitation to both visit with and address the MSBA membership the night before on Wednesday June 23 at 7:30 PM. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 and after MR Dunn speaks there will be a short break followed by a second talk by Dave Lamoreaux who became famous for landing a Bluefin Tuna from his Kayak.

In 2009 the US Senate confirmed Dr. Jane Lubchenco as the Under Secretary of Commerce and Administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the federal agency that includes the National Marine Fisheries Service. Early in her tenure, Dr. Lubchenco made a pledge to improve communication, understanding of and interaction with the nation’s salt water recreational fishing community. On March 23, 2010, Eric Schwaab; the Assistant Administrator for Fisheries of NOAA announced the appointment of Russell Dunn as the first ever National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries. Russell (Russ) Dunn brings 14 years of public and private sector marine fisheries policy experience at both the national and international levels. Since joining NOAA Fisheries Service in 2002, he has served as Branch Chief of the Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Management Division in the Southeast Region, the primary domestic policy advisor for the United States’ delegation to ICCAT, and as the Acting Chief of the HMS Management Division. Prior to joining NOAA Fisheries, Dunn was the Director of Government Relations for the National Audubon Society’s Living Ocean’s Campaign, served on NOAA Fisheries Service’s Billfish and Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panels, and worked for then Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell to facilitate consensus building on issues within the U.S. Senate. Dunn is based out of the NOAA Fisheries Service Southeast Regional Office.

Mr. Dunn is the top government employee dedicated to only work on recreational fishing and it is a great honor that he has chose to come address MSBA. Anyone interested in hot topics such as Tuna regulations and the healrth of important species such as River Herring, this is a must attend meeting.
