Price of Hamburger this summer
I've noticed that Hamburger has gone up this summer. Last year you could get pre formed patties (I like the 1/3 pounders) in 86% lean for $1.99 on sale. This year I see some places with just ground beef 86% supposedly on sale for $3.99. Now I have seen the ground beef 86% lean for $2.99 but the best I have seen for patties is about $2.79 for preformed frozen. I don't mind frozen as I usually buy a lot when on sale and freeze them anyway.
has anybody seen 86% lean (or 85%) on sale for $1.99 this summer? I want to stock up when there is a chnace to buy the premade burgers for$1.99. I have a tool to make my own preformed so even bulk ground beef at 86% lean for $1.99 might interest me.

Mike - I think you're frugal enough to consider a move to Cape Cod...

Nothing like farm fresh!
Whether its pants from Penny's or shirts from Kohl's or burgers from S+S I love to get the quality I want for the best available price by shopping smart.
I would say that planning ahead and buying when the best price presents itself can save you 50-80% or more over the "every day low price". Example , I buy the best Arrow and Van Huesen Broadcloth dress shirts off season (long sleeve in summer and short in winter) , normally $35 to $45 each for about $11 to $12 and sometimes as low as $7.80!
Remember , in tax happy USA and RI , a penny saved is often worth 2 pennies earned. Don't you just love a bargain!

I bought 24 premade patties of 86% lean for $2.66 a pound. That is still 33% higher than last year.
I did see some 1/4 pounders for $2.33/lb but they were 80% lean.
24 patties should get me through the summer and also leave some room for buying more if I see a real bargain.
Last year when they did the premade 1/3 pounders in 86% lean for $1.99/lb I bought over 100 patties.

I never think of a meat market. I scan all the weekly ads for the bigger supermarkets but since Mike's Meats moved , I never even see a meat market in my normal travels.
I really like to buy at Stop and Shop. I worked there a long time ago and know they are quality concious. The trouble is you can't buy anything from them unless its on sale. Their normal pricess are way too high. So I scan the ads , make mental notes , then make on big circle driving to them all and getting this her and that there depending on what's on sale.
