8 Year old's first hand carved
My eight year old son went with me the other day to Mike Thomas' house to go over some plug stuff. When we got home he bugged me to build his own plug. Seeing as though he has been working on his whiddling badge in Cub Scouts I gave him a block of pine and told him to have a ball. He sat in the shop with me and carved away with his pocket knife while I worked. An hour later he asked if I could drill this for him. WOW....he carved a plug!!! I Drilled it and he is now painting it all by him self. He wants to know if there is a youth class at Plugfest? I told him he can bring it but I doubt theres a class for him. I can't wait for him to start turning.

Starting him young, that's great.
Nothing will beat that feeling once he catches a fish on his own plug, never mind a hand carved!!
Great stuff spud and spud jr

Its primed and drying as we speak. We're having a painting lesson tomorrow night and he's going to paint it after a few practice runs. He's very excited to show it off.

This morning before school I let him read these comments, there was a certain 8 year old in Somerset Ma who went to school with a smile a mile wide. Thanks guys for encouraging him to continue. He has a pasion to fish and allways want to be in the shop with me. He can't wait to get home today so we can start the painting process. I will post some more pics tonight.

He picked Bunker green with a tan belly. Painted by him, but he wants me to add the black spots.

Its DONE....He doesn't want to fish it though. He wants to save his first one, but fish all the rest. He plans on making a bunch more, and already started another. He is very proud of his accomplishment and so am I. Thanks again guys!
