Just passing along some info I received from RISAA:
Greetings to everyone in Rhode Island’s marine fishing community. I am writing to let you know that I have scheduled an initial marine fisheries “roundtable” meeting on February 7 from 3 – 5 pm in the Hazard Room at the URI Bay Campus. The meeting is open to everyone with an interest in marine fisheries in Rhode Island.
I am honored to have been nominated by Governor Chafee to serve as the new DEM Director, a position with significant responsibility when it comes to managing our natural resources. As part of my job orientation during these first few weeks, I want to make the opportunity to get to know Rhode Island’s highly regarded – and highly diverse – fishing community and hear your perspectives on the issues that are most important to you.
The agenda for this initial meeting is to introduce myself, and to get to know you. So, I will kick off and speak briefly about my perspective on marine fisheries. Then, I will ask everyone to introduce himself/herself and dedicate the rest of the meeting to teeing up priority issues, with time set aside for specific issue categories. As much as I look forward to analyzing the issues, I want to make sure that everyone has a chance to weigh in on urgent and top priorities, and help set the agenda for subsequent smaller meetings or future roundtables where we will get into a deeper discussion of fisheries management and priority issues.
If anyone has any questions regarding the meeting, please contact Rayna Santoro at
Rayna.Santoro@dem.ri.gov. I look forward to seeing you on the 7th!
