SS there are NO fish in the westport area so there is no need to launch there! Realy the harbor is a very good jumping off place for R.I. and the Islands. The channel in narrow but well marked. The only bad thing is be sure to check and see that the swells are not big from some off shore storm as they build up fast at the mouth of the river and can be VERY dangerous. You should always slow at the mouth of the river and be sure before heading out. That said the fishing around the area can be great at times there are some great Tog spots just out side the river. You will need to get a sticker at the town hall if you plan to use the ramp more than two or three times for 30.00 or pay the day rate of 5.00 at the ramp. But if you plan on a all nighter you may get stuck for not paying in time for the next day as they will check before you come in. Thats why I get the town sticker.

Good luck and good fishing to you.
