Which one the 20 or 30??? I had a 20 level-wind a lil spring broke for the free spool lever was on backorder.. Guy at JB tackle in niantic gave me a replacement 30 level wind seeing as he is a warranty center for Daiwa.. No mags in mine casts real nice once you get used to it.. retrieve is FAST though.. Outta the box factory great convench reel TONS of drag if your used to Abus also..

Mind you a majority of time on that reel was surf/ casting although I did do a ton of vertical jigging with it off Chatham last years commercial season.. held up great.. Speed was nice then..

Deffinately try to get used to it before you lay into it all I am gonna say.. they are super fast and smooth outta the box for casting..

I have both the 30-H and the 30-H LW. I think I have one red block in the 30-H, and the LW doesn't have a braking system out of the box.

I find both reels to be very controllable. I doubt that I needed the one block in the non-levelwind. In real-time fishing, you often need a little thumb control even if you set your brakes. Switching lures with different aerodynamics, having gusty wind quartering at you, the occasional bad-form cast that causes your lure to tumble, etc.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

I got the knobby kit on ebay and yes it was a pain to get it in and still have the clicker working. The sideplates are domed so geometry comes into play. Some modifications to the knob and the way it bolts down.Sealed it off with some epoxy and it's good to go.I had a non LW from Hatteras Jacks and they do a fine job also.

Mine is a levelwind and the tolerances are pretty tight if you wish to keep the clicker.I can post a few pics if your going to try and do it yourself.I'm just a tinkerer and not a reel mechanic.
