Problem with Opti 115

I got a new 115 three yrs ago, I didn't get to use it much last yr. When I stabilised it last fall it was running fine. The water tube was a little less pressure but still OK, thought it might need a new impeller this season. When I tried to start it last week with the muffs on there was no water flow at all, so I bought a kit. A friend thats done a few of these put it in for me. Still no water flow! Now I'm in a panic! I'm out of work, out of money and can't afford another bill. I tried to Google some answers and got nowhere. Desperatly need some help!

How long did you wait to see the water flow? All the Merc's I've had take a while for the thermostat to open and water to start flowing. You may need new T-stat.

My neighbor said the same thing. But the owners manual says that if water dosen't flow right away to shut it down to avoid damage. I tried to look up a thermostat and couldn't find anything, I might be labeled as technically impaired! I only let it run about 5-6 seconds.

thermostats stick on occasion... we used to give em a healthy bump
with wood (not metal) to un stick them

Check the pee stream for an obstruction by putting a piece of heavy fishing line or weed wacker string up thru the port and see if there is a piece of dirt or crap just obstucting the pee stream.

Poke the pisser hole like he said. Clean it out.
Let it run for more than 6 seconds. It's getting water at the impellor that's what will burn up if not wet, so let It run. Try 30 seconds then panic

Just wondering, could you just take the thermostat out like in the old cars, and let water continuosly circulate? At least that would give a definite answer to if it's the part.

It worked! Put a wooden block on the housing and gave a few taps, waters squirting out like a long necked steamer! Thanks for all the advice, saved me a bundle. The Trout thank you too, they've paid a heavy price for the boat being laid up!

Dont take the thermostat out, do as others have said. The tube gets build up of salt that is probably part of it, but also run it a little longer.

...and I get laughed at everytime I hook the hose up to the rinse out connector on my Yami 4 stroke. I rinse the inside of the motor for 5 minutes with fresh water so there is no salt build up.

More than likely the poppet valve was stuck, not the t-stat.... the water that is alllowed to pass by the t-stat dumps into the itermediate housing after flowing past the exhaust chambers and exists out the lower unit and acts as a muffler when it fills the tube ...it's a good practice to replace the poppet valve diapram, t-stat and water pump every 3-4 years ( I do mine every other time I re register), it's not just the use, sitting idle causes the impeller to take a set, the poppet valve also can stay seated in it's seat, and the t stats ( which are very small), get plugged and corroded..glad you got it working..
