Hobie Kayak Likes/Dislikes

So seems like more than a few have the hobie mirage drive kayaks.

I've heard all good things from everyone that has them.

But what things you don't like??

Any changes you wish they had?

Are they a pain to load or unload from the vehicle?

Etc, etc?

Like cheferson, I'm trying to get some inside info to help make my mind up.

Looks like there's only one place in RI that's a dealer.

Thanks guys.

Chef

Chris have you visited the kayak forum yet??

I have zero dislikes about my Hobie yaks! They are awesome and I have no regrets for spending the coin on them!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Chris... My Hobie Yak is a fishing machine... I like everything about it and it allows me to fish many spots that otherwise I could not fish w/o a $30K+++ Center Console... Today I walked from herring Cove to Race Pt and could not reach the fish.. then I launched my Hobie and caught 10 fish greater than 30" in 3 hours and had a blast doing it

I invested in a Thule Hullavator for my VW station wagon... makes it easy for me to solo load and unload... I also have the Hobiy Dolly which also is a big help... esp for launch places where you have to park a ways from the water... I got ucky and found a NIB Hullavator for $200 off

Likes - just about everything.
Dislikes - I can't use it as much as I would like.

I fished with BigFish and Fishchick last fall on a windy day with me using my paddle Ocean Kayak and they both had Hobies. That was when I realized that my next yak will be a Hobie without question. I was bustin my hump paddling agains the wind while they peddled along with no problems. I never minded paddling before, but that day made me regret not spending the money on the Hobie.

The hobie pedal drive is great when you are fishing currents/rips and want to hold your position and cast into the rip.... esp with the larger turbo fins you can idle pedal and cast with both hands free.... plus your legs are stronger than your arms.... if you really want to go fast you can pedal and paddle at the same time... with my Revo I can sustain 5+ knots for 5-10 minute stretches
