I would like to hear from the Experts: What exactly makes for ideal conditions? is it strictly location, water temperature,
availability of baitfish, tides, weather, time of day,( ie light) that
makes for ideal conditions. Now I'm sure its a combination of them all ( including diving terns ) but weigh in on this topic
you Striper Scientists -> as to what you happen to look for. ok

Not an expert but: D - all of the above... And to make matters more intersting, you can have the worst combination of all and still have a blitz...

well LUCK is a factor...but then again its often said that 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water.... so if you happen to be lucky
enough to find that particular spot then your into a bliz of luck.

Firstly, I look to see if the sun is in the sky. If it is, I know conditions aren't all that great.

More than conditions, I think it all boils down to persistance. You just need to find yourself in the right place at the right time. To find youself there you need to go a lot. Some times will be bad. Some times will be good. Some times will be VERY good.

I disagree on luck....I'd say it's 80% skill and 20% luck.

I can bring inexperienced guys to the same spots I fish and they'll catch nothing.

The luck comes into play when you've got two experienced guys fishing next to one another with the same lure, and one guy gets a 40 pounder while the other gets a schoolie. And even that can be attributed to skill if they are working the plug differently.

How many times have you just arrived at a spot ask if anything is happening? Everyone replies nothing today, but man you should have been here such and such a day we were killing them.
I believe a lot of it is being at the right place at the right time.

ask 100 fishermen the same ??? and get 100 different answers !!!!

lesson # 2.....you can try every one of those senarios and not one of them will work for you....

lesson #3......you say "screw it".....and leave all that behind...go fishing and KILL 'EM!!!!!

Lesson #4.....refer back to lessons # 1-3....

I am not an expert neither or a pro. Just a surf fishing bum. I have read a couple of books available at barns and noble. Stripersurf and striper hotspots by Frank Daignault. I am not promoting these books just recommending. There are other books but these were best liked by a lot of people. Through this info and info thru this website archives and other sites I have increased my productivity. I learned how to read the water, look for impressions left @ low tide, finding bass holes etc. I scout and take Photographs @ low tide. When surfn I have found casting into a "third" wave with a high and low rig works consistently. I have also learned to keep an open mind about what other striperman do. Thats why I tour these websites to find information about techniques and new tackle etc. Have a safe summer everyone!

Really it is being in the rt place at the rt time......But its noing the rt places to go!!
And you will only find those places after putting your time in.
I do 99.9% boat fishing for the last ten years. And I can bring fish in when others can't because I have that ace in the hole spot. It may only be a small hole but it will always have 1 or 2 fish in it. And that's the spots you find only after years of hard work.
Not to say Iam a pro and I do get shut out on days when others are catching. But time and experince is the key!!
