Digital converter boxes (tv)

I got Verizon fios in my house (tv, Internet, phone )
I joined the 21st century & got a flat screen LED hd.
I turned in 4 digital boxes to Verizon for 1 DVD & 3 Verizon digital converter boxes.
Anyone know if the digital converter boxes the gov was giving out And or the ones you can buy will do the same thing and get me all the channels in my package less ppv or movie channels or will they only give me local channels ?
Would rather buy them rather than pay $2.99 per box each month as those TVs are in bed rooms and don't watch much. Maybe news in am or pm. M

The digital converter boxes from uncle scam will only work for 4-5 channels. They are the digital version of the old rabbit ears antenna - only difference is that stations are broadcasting a digital signal instead of an analog one.

With Verizon, you're probably SOL on getting out of paying for their boxes. You used to be able to plug the coax direct from the wall into your tv if the tv had a tuner in it. I know Comcast squashed that, not sure if Verizon has too.

Question you'd think

that if you can have a wireless digital connection in your house
for internet connectivity
that you could also have a wireless digital connection
for a tv box too

They are using the whole digital media thing to screw you every inch of the way. Boxes from the cable co. , verizon , etc is just another way for them to pinch you for a few more bucks. I can't even get the TV guide channel anymore. When I called to find out why they said it was moved to a channel that required I get the box. I bought a DVD recorder figuring it would be just like my VCR only have longer time to record on DVD's. Nope. The DVD Recorder has absolutely no input for coax so i need to go through a box first. they say its about Digital Rights management but if that's the case , how come I can do it if i get the box?

All the utilities have become avenues to rip off customers. They are independent companies when it comes to the screw you stuff but they are utilities when it comes to keeping out competition, use of roads and existing poles etc to string wires , the way their services are taxed , etc.

bend over!

Ronnie I dunno if this will help any but, I mounted a flat screen HD TV in my kitchen with no D box I was only able to get 9 analog channels.I looked into the TV's menu and selected the "auto channel" it ran in this mode for fifteen minutes and found me 51 HD and 12 analog channels.
I then went into the "Show/Hide"( channels) well Holy crap! This is awesome I have a chit load of channels that I never new about.

Live bait sharp hooks and timing is all you need
