but at 7pm on DECEMBER 5th..... it's 55 degrees! Nice day today... Must have been asked a dozen times why I wasn't on my boat....

I'm loving this weather. Was just talking to a friend that lives in Truro... we're both wondering if there will be much safe ice down that area this year.

I want to go ice fishing....can't do that when its 50-60 degrees.

I remember a few years ago my Smelt fishing trip to Maine got canceled because of no ice in January up there......I don't want a repeat of that.

I drove to SOCO hoping to fish but got down there after sunset and with pea soup fog the only thing I found was an empty lot near Charlestown beach. It was my first trip to fish RI and I couldn't find Quonochontaug breachway so I couldn't fish. Has anyone got an address for my gps so next time fog and darkness won't interfere? I still have eels left and want to fish them somewhere.

time to scale down the gear

There is still an amazing amount of bait in the local northshore waters. i will be putting an aggressive attempt at smelting. I looked over the side of the docks in town, and the water was paved with spearing. Under them was smelt. Under them were 8 inch pollock. I may cast net next years fluke bait, then try to trick the wily smelt. i got 4 jigs in sunday (phone call from command control told me i had to pick up my spawn, killing the hour i had put aside to jig), and i had 8 small pollock in under a minute (c n r). With all the regs changes in our furture, i think you have to learn to enjoy the fish, no matter what size they are.

I don't know about that.... Still 49 degrees here. If all of today's rain were snow, how many inches do you figure you would have had to shovel?

Lot more needed to access Quonny than a map

Weekapaug or Charlestown are easier access - ALWAYS fish with someone on the breachways until you know it.

Usually the wife shovels by the time I get home from work. I should check the garage to make sure her shovel is in good working order.

Striper hot spots by Frank Diagnault is my guide and does mention floating across to gain legal access to the west side but I haven't been there yet so I am hesitant about bringirng the yak. Once I have the new ff/gps installed I will be more confident about new areas, considered the wet suit but it's only 3mm.

I do most of my fishing alone, and don't want to waste anyones time trying a new area where I can't help them or at least give them advice based on my experience in the area I am fishing. I am going to try again today except I will get there during daylight, the wait for dawn is pushing my level of endurance though (paying dues again). I am tempted to wait till next week (I'm working Friday through Sunday) but I may have to head for NJ which would require a hotel stay that I can't afford. I wish I could find a hotel that I could check in around 9am and check out arounnd midnight rather than check in at 2pm out at 11am.

Almost cancelled my trip but I found my last eel making it 14. I have an address thanks to Naviomics. I haven't finished another plug yet John but I will ritire the one I fish to you if we meet up. That might give me the incentive to finish the jointed version if I can find it ...on the road now it's going to be a tough night, hope I endure till dawn.
