MV Shark Tournament
Any of you guys participating? I'm going to take a cruise over there to try and see some weigh ins on Friday or Saturday. Would love to see some guys from this site hoist some big mako's.

I'll be over there with a few other SB members as well. Our slip is going to be out front of the Westley. I'm running a 32 Blackfin Combi named Obsession.

Shark fishing has been decent, a few makos but you will be fighting off the bluesharks. My buddy lost a 300lb+ mako he had on a stella.terez spinner set up. 15' leaps and blazing speeds several trips around the pilothouse.
You should have plenty of sharks around the boat within an hour of chumming. Species control is the issue.
I have a seasonal slip in front of the Wesley as well but it gets kind of crazy down there this weekend so I will move my boat out of the harbor on Wednesday and put it on a mooring in tashmoo for a few days. Boats started arriving for this last weekend! I have seen a few sweet battle-wagons already.
I'll swing by in the PM to see how everyone has done.
Hope the weather holds.

Is there a geographic area where you're allowed to fish? With some of the big center consoles that do 900 mph I'd be heading east then north about 80 miles for makos.
Someone at my dock just came back with 112" mako.

Sandman, I was slipped next to you a few weekends back in my SeaCraft. Boat is looking very good, I always liked those boats. You will have to show me around her sometime. Is that a Charles Jannice Design hull?
MikeD, you don't want to use a 130 on a big Mako...getting them to the boat quick isn't a good idea like it is with a Bluefin. You want them a little tired. A big green pissed off Mako forward jumping near the boat can be a scary thing.

Thats a beast. The scariest thing on the water is a big green mako near the boat. They are so unpredictable and love to jump. Let the fish tire out and they are still extremely dangerous like RR said. Hell of a catch.

I didnt even think of that. You'd want no part of that fish full of energy boatside. Are they known to jump right in the boat and just flip out? I can imagine that would be a little unsettling, having that mouth snapping at everything in the boat! I've only sharked twice and both times we ended up fighting blue sharks on 50W tiagra's, and pulled the hooks with gaffs boatside. I can imagine the Mako is a whole different sport. Every day is a school day!

I'm heading over tomorrow with my son for the weigh in. Hopefully we'll see Jay and his gang weighing in a big one.
