V-wake

So we are out on the fluking grounds yesterday and decide a change of scenery is in order when we notice a wake off the starboard side. Speculation has us guessing out loud....shark?...mola? Get out the spinning gear and ease up REALLY close and the thing won't go down..... right on top of it now and we clearly see a bill. Holy crap,it seems a wayward white marlin has wandered into 40 ft. of water a few miles south of the Vineyard. Bonked it off the head a few times with plugs and beat myself up for not bringing eels. 20 minutes later it has had enough and sounds for good.Found 73 degree water close by....btw, the fishing was awesome.

most guys have not had luck with eels or scup this year with these things. They seem to hit random things that are trolled. Small green machines, squid lures, rigged ballyhoo small spreader bar, now and then a casting plug, etc but nothing with regularity... I heard they are ignoring the eels and will play with the scup but not eat it.

I believe these fish are sleeping on the surface when you come up on them. When the spread comes by them they wake up and sometimes get excited.

I plan to target them tomorrow. I am also bringing two fly rods with a couple big marlin flies. I would love to hook up on one on a 9 or 10 weight.

I was going to go today but they were calling for gusty winds of 20+ 3-5 and a good likelihood of a serious Tstorm, so I said lets hold off for another day. It is best if the conditions are greasy calm.

I would love to hear where you saw it (PM me if you want to share)

I am now moving to a treble hook on a ballyhoo...when he grabs it I am driving the steel home. Regular hooks with these things are not working. It is becoming maddening.

Try to freespool your bally down his throat. Going out in the morning to Norfolk Canyon or Cigar for a tangle.
