Congrats on the big fish.
I see in the picture a guy with a fish 48.5 inches long but just 33.75 pounds. Is that typical of fish that far north? I guess the really fat 48+ inch fish just don't migrate that far north?

Yes, skinny is the norm up here for the most part, especially for surf fish. Obviously there are exceptions. There's a picture of my fish at the link below, very skinny (I taped it at 47", only about 31.5 lbs):
