Identify fish bay

6"
Mostly silver, smooth, no teeth or very few, fork tail, lateral line near tail is raised and hard. There are a few that had about 7 short dark bands along the center.

we had these in the Sakonnet River, someone told me that they were Leather Jacks...watched them chasing small bait one afternnon together with a bunch of needlefish
