Peepers

Hearing them loud and clear. Season is around the corner. (they must have been surprised with all the snow that is still around.....)

The wood frogs can have 65% of their body water completely freeze and still survive. Pretty insane and still amazes the scientists

Btw the hike is at 7:30 pm this coming Friday if anyone wants to join. The kids are allowed to touch and hold the frogs and salamanders. So it's not like a tree hugging kiss a plovers cornhole event. It will be my 1st time attending but I asked all the questions to make sure it wasn't going to be lame

driving my daughter to preschool the other day and have to pass Crystal Lake in W.Peabody, saw a few turtles sunning themselves on a log....gave me hope!

Thumbs up brings back memories

used to travel by trolly as a kid to crystal lake in the summer to swim.

no peepers yet but the robins are singing their song so it won't be long.

I heard the wood frogs yesterday when I got home from work, but no peepers.

BEFORE the skeeters/mayflies get active....

is to locate a good peeper pond and at dusk walk up there
and find a comfortable place to sit down awhile...

they will hear you coming and typically go into silent mode
for awhile. after being very quiet one or two will begin singing
then ten to twenty will join in... eventually the whole place
will get loud with a peeper chorus of astonishing volume
close your eyes and listen ...and you'll here the reverberation
rhythm (back and forth)
that is quite hypnotic and gets almost deafening to listen to....

expose yourself to ten minutes of the peeper concert

then yell real loud a quick "HEY !!!!! " and it will go instantly silent
but all your body cells will still be vibrating from the high
frequency of their calls.

Still not hearing the peepers at my house, but heard them on the other end of town yesterday. The wood frogs are going crazy mating in my neighbors pond right now. My son scooped 4 of them out all stuck together the other day and then asked me why they were like that.

it was light at 8:15 last night and low 70s. I was in the hot tub s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g down my easter martini admiring my bass thumbs from 2 straight days of largemouth fishing and resting my sore a$$ from all the planting and mulching my wife had me doing. Ah, life is damn good!

Wood frogs started over the weekend but I still have snow on the north side of my back field and around the north side of the pond. Ice is out as of Friday.

No boat, back in the suds.
