big weekend - heading to the coast

Tomorrow AM I take a short 6 HOUR RIDE to the coast. Towing the boat and wife and kids. Headed to Rockport TX, on aransas bay on the gulf. I'll be fishing hard 2 days for redfish and speckled trout, maybe I'll come across some jacks, ladyfish or spanish macks. I've been studying maps, reading articles, etc. The bay is huge and max depth is 10 feet, most water is 3-4feet and lots of oyster beds and reefs so Im not sure how easily I will be able to run around. At a minimum I'll be chowing on fresh shrimp and oysters and smelling the salt air. I'd love to bang some good fish but we'll see.
Wish me luck! I'll post pics if I get into fish.

Good luck. Sounds like you'll have a great time with the family even if the fishing is bad.

good luck Jim

Good Luck Jim. I hope you and the family have a blast. Miss you around Wickford.

1 @ 32 Pledge. Our beloved Striped Bass are in trouble AGAIN.

I fished through the lean years and don't want to live through another collapse of the stock.

2 fish @ 28" is ridiculous.

I spent 2 days in water 1-2 ft deep, fishing bayous with alligator warning signs all around. it was picture perfect gulf bay fishing - mullet jumping, dolphins swimming near my boat, rays swimming by,,,,,I wish the fish cooperated. I got a few ladyfish, dropped a couple of decent fish at the boat and didnt even see what they were. Im guessing reds. It was a cool experience. The whole town was full of fisherman, I've never felt so at home. I cant wait to get back. I may get a guide next time.

Better than dropping them at your feet in the surf in November... did you try and do an atomic drop on these fish into the water as well?

Or worse...no...I can't go there.

I've got an old friend who lives in that area and fishes those waters on his yak all the time.

Jim's was at least a real fish, not a glorified schoolie...

For the uniformed confused about this thread "pogie" is a Sicilian euphemism for...well...read Paul's post and you can probably figure it out
