Take the boy. Great time with or without. Why go at 2? Leave the house at 4

How young is this boy?

Canal isn't for toddlers, least not mine. Just sayin,
Aside from that, could someone please shoot me a PM, when something is going on there too....just don't wait the extra day

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

Borderline... maybe. If the kid doesn't have korkers and doesn't know what he's doing, I would stick to the beaches.

Maybe your son should bring you to his school.

I believe there is a dock on the way into Scusset that would work for a 10 yr old. I should think you could fish for all species from there.
Macs? Squid in the dark with a light?
Have fun, don't wait, go

There are plenty of places with good footing, where a 10 year old would be perfectly safe. He'll probably climb down the rocks at 10 easier than I can at 60.

Or go there at high tide and have him fish from the bank.

If you want to fish from the pier, go there at a west tide, where he can walk the fish back along the side of the pier to the rocks, where you can go down and reach it for him. They are rebuilding the east side now, and you can't walk down that side of it.

You can also fish from the bulkheads at Sandwich. There's a cable railing there now that wasn't there when I was 10.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

Took my son yesterday late morning for a few hours. There are fish around. He had a decent one blow up on his plug 3 feet from sure and miss. That got his attention

Avoid the fish pier. There is easy fishing off the Sandwich boat basin outer wall. and if you want to "light duty" canal, you can go more towards the power plant where the rocks aren't too bad.

I'm really not familiar with it but thought it might work for you and son.
There was a ton of bait at that end last week, could be fun

that's awesome, he'd be learning from a pro(Ty)

when I had my oldest on the rocks at that age we took just one rod... easier to keep an eye on her, focus was on teaching and enjoying watching her fish...her first Canal trip she landed a big fish, I was able to get photos of the whole affair and some great faces made as the drag was screaming, probably safer than a lot of other rocky situations
