First encounter with EPO
We had a great day out on the water yesterday. Boat ran great and my boat handling skills are improving. Also caught my first striper from the boat this year, short so it went back.
When I approached the boat ramp to take out, I saw a man in a dark colored uniform walking out the dock towards me..
It was an EPO officer, and before I could secure the boat to the dock he started to question me. "Been doin a little fishing"?he asked. "Yea a little" I said. "Catch anything"? Yea I said. "Mind if I check it"? he asked. "It was short so it went" back I responded.
"You got a fishing license"? Yes, "How about life jackets"? Yes they're in the stern locker. "Ok have a nice day".
Officer was professional and polite, then moved on to the next boat that was hauling out. Looked like he was being extremely thorough with those other guys.
Point is that they are out there checking so make sure you are in compliance.

I was approached a few times last year both shore and boat, although it may seem like and inconvenience, i respect what they do and are happy to answer their questions.
Was also boarded a few times by the CG, welcome aboard boys!

Put this in a different context and it's pretty funny.

Funny he didn't ask my wife for her fishing license!
Although holding the real upside down while cranking the handle loose and dropping it in the water doesn't count as fishing in my book.

How does that go down? they come along side and ask to board? I mean do they search the boat for fish?
I don't mind questions but boarding and searching would kind of piss me off.

All my CG & EPO encounters were simple even got a show once when the little porky little fella tried to step over the bow rail and whacked his nads on the rail when he slipped.
They will come on board check safety gear, fire extinguisher etc. Ask for license check out fish. Everyone i fish with are on point and they tend not to fuss more than just a fast expectation.
I have heard of guys getting the riot act mostly cause they were being #^^^^&s to them and probably trying to hiding something.
If your legit and clean let em on board IMHO.

Not sure if this threw him off, but had one approaching me as I was wrestling the boat on to the trailer in a good wind at an exposed ramp...fell off the tongue and got knee deep in water as he was approaching me, he simply said, "not having a good day huh?"...
I just looked at him with that wet-under-wear look
He didn't say anything else to me.
