North Shore guy check in
How's the fishing been? haven't been able to get out as much as I would like, but seems slower this year for who knows why - got one decent one last week (well for me, maybe 15 pounds), got out yesterday and only smalls. Usually have multiple keepers a trip by this time.. tell me it's just me! Feels like fish are still moving into the area as they all have sea lice
Not hearing much from other sources either..

went out of kernwood yesterday, hard a hard time picking up macks one her one there, then the wind kicked up and had to move in shore nothing going on in salem harbor and did nothing around back towards kernwood I should of brought some worms and went looking for flounder. Buddies of mine have been finding fish in deep water outside 80'-180' ft

The river was below average for me this year and not for lack of bait either.

Got out at the Castle for an hour Saturday evening. Very low tide, but I needed to get a line wet before the Cuttyhunk trip this coming weekend. One small 13" fish. Yes, the first time out this year..... Hoping to get the engine back on the boat this week and launch when I get back from the island trip.

horrible for me. My tricks aren't working and my spots aren't producing. Probably just me....but had 1 bump. That's it.

Lots of small fish with an occasional small keeper in my area. The chunkers are getting fish up to 43 inches in the harbor. Macs abundant and still a ton of feed around. Squid absent so far as well.

Finally got a line wet
been a little while since I got the boat wet. Was able to find macs outside Glo. harbor and proceeded north. Picked up a half dozen fish in the mid-thirty inch range in some of the boulder fields. A few cooperative flounder and lobsters made it a good day.

It's slow. I can only get out about once a week, if that. Small fish and only 1 keeper size so far.

4 hours last night fighting the wind... should have left after the first cast...one fish first cast 27 lbs...then the anchor/chunk crew moved into my drift( as I was netting my fish). Never could hit the edge again properly once they took position ... there were a few fish around but nothing else that could eat a 18" eel...hopefully the wind dies and I can fish where there aint no people...or at least the ones that do have manners..
water in the river is warming up.... it's up to 60 at high tide ..
I forgot to mention... the chunk crew is doing a bang up job of killing babies... I saw over a dozen dead ( short) fish between my dock and in the tide rips.... sure wish they would discover circle hooks..or just cut the line...I have a sneaky suspicion this is related to the start of the selling season... just a guess....

off of cape Ann fish were tight to shore early and then moved 2 miles out for a couple small fish too...nothing to brag about 35- 38 inch fish....Mac's were slow for us on Sunday and we nailed them early Monday....friend of mine had a 40 pounder fishing from the rocks.

last week ended ( Thursday) on a better note... I managed to find a small pod of fish that ranged between 20lbs and a top fish of 33lbs ( weighed on a digital scale) .. live eels enticed 9 in just under 3 hours.. had I stayed for the drop I'm sure I would have got a few more.. in-between were numerous 10lb class fish...I never saw another boat until it was over... so things are improving.. but who knows to what end..

Seems to be picking up from what I have been experiencing and hearing lately as well. Got skunked in my usual spot on Sat, switched it up and hit some decent fish on Sunday. Still - shouldn't be getting skunked this time of year in my go-to spots!

they should have respected your drift. next time 2 oz sinker, no hook. couple cast usually does it. it's a last resort tactic that sounds douchie but you were there first, on fish, enough said

yeah Fly Rod, I think that is definitely part of the problem, at least for me - the fish are just not in tight to the rocks like they usually are by now. When you say deep, I assume you are talking out a ways..which I just don't feel comfortable doing on my kayak!

This hot weather may drive them deeper but..... if this tropical storm gets close enough to stir up the surf there could be a few solid days of great fishing this weekend even from the rocks. (be safe if you get out there!)
Can say for certain now that the squid have returned in big numbers and size. Had a few over 18" this past weekend.

Bass were intercepting squid as they tried to get out into harbor this morning. Pretty fricken neat to see squid fly and pop straight outta the water 3 feet high. Had a large bass inhale my jumping minnow along with the clump of seaweed it was stuck to. Screaming drag but she went right under the bridge and broke me off on a barnacles-laden piling. Definitely some bigger fish around now.
