Go Pro tips.
Not sure if any of you guys go pro your night time trips from the shore. I am using the head strap and caught 2 nice fish last night and managed to capture probably the 2 worst go pro videos on record. Any tips on getting it right? Do you use the chest mount or have a tip on getting the angle correct on the head mount. Last night i thought i had it right with the camera just above my headlight.

There is no spot burning going on that is for sure. The vids are pretty much of my feet with an occasional stripe or two. Trust me, i feel the same way, the spot i have been hitting this year needs to be protected like they all do. Haven't made it down your way much, thought about hitting it last night but had perfect timing at the place i went.

They are useless in low light and dark conditions Rob! I use mine all the time but only after the sun is on the rise and before sunset! Unless you have lights you can illuminate the shot with?

PS-Spot burning is why I keep my vids private until the season is over!

If the go pro can see in the IR spectrum, you could try a small IR light. Can't be seen by our eyes.
Use a lot of IR cameras for some of my work. It may come out as a black and white image.

I have been successful in testing out a camera + headlamp scenario. Granted I only took video in my bathroom with the lights off to simulate a dark night, but it worked. I simply had to adjust the angle of the GoPro to match the angle of the light beam with them set next to each other on my head. Do you have the GoPro with wifi? If so you can easily set the shot up in advance and view on your phone through the app to be sure it all lines up correclty. If not it is a crap shoot at best.

That's a good idea checking out the angle with the app. Tough during the summer keeping it in place. I was was sweating my ass off and the no-see-ums were having a field day. I had to keep adjusting the straps on both my light and camera to cover up more of the back of my head. Shoulda kept the long hair.

This is why I wear a lightweight beanie all summer long. While it is not perfect, it keeps the bugs form biting my head, ears and neck.

a bit of a pricey solution @ $120 and it isn't available yet (evidently shipping in next couple of weeks), but at 400 lumens it is certainly plenty bright and will help you make friends at night on the beach/rocks
