Hook disposal
This might seem silly, but I have a ton of old trebles that I'd like to get rid of. I keep them in a clear Plano box for safe keeping and after replacing some hooks last night I realized I had to someday dispose of them. I can't toss them in the trash fully knowing what a 3/0 treble might feel like for an unsuspecting trash handler. I've thought of dumping them off a pier, but figured I'd check here. Any suggestions??

Not exactly the same, but we go through a lot of utility blades. I cut a slot in a plastic container to hold the dull blades when changing them out. When I have some left over expanding foam from a job I just shoot it in there to encapsulate the blades and throw the whole thing in the trash.

I use coffee cans too, the metal ones. When it's full I tape it up real well.

I cut the points off, rest of the treble goes into the garbage, no concern getting stuck after that.
