Sarasota FL
Talking to a home owner on AirBNB about potentially renting for the mouth of February. The reviews are all very positive, but I have some reservations about sharing a home with someone, has anyone gone through this process? Obviously everyone's experience is different, but I'm curious about the process, insurance, fishing in the area.
I'd probably drive down so we have a vehicle, so I'll bring a couple rods and selection of tackle, although I can't imagine what to prepare for. I don't think I want to hassle with totting the kayak, as it's on a trailer and if I want one for a couple days I'll rent down there. At least I'll have a full size truck, so moving a kayak around once down there shouldn't be an issue.
If it were Marathon Key, I'd know what to prepare for, anyone give me any advice on the Sarasota area? Probably won't fish a lot, but I'd like to sample some in between, golf, beach or tourist stuff with the girlfriend.
Not booking until after this storm goes by them, hope there is a house left to rent.

My Florida gear is the the same stuff I use on schoolies
7-8ft rod, 5000 size reel or vs150, jigheads and soft plastics, spooks and topwater and some swimmers and some lighter bucktails
Gulp on 3/4oz jighead will catch you a bunch of species
It's a big love bait game down in Florida, shrimp and light weights and small hooks but we caught like 12-13 species in an hour.

agree with Chris. Ive fished there and the virgin islands and brought a 7' travel rod with some bak bone and a VS150. Brought Small ronz, bucktails, spooks, tins ect. That set up should be perfect for small game fish, and if you tie into a nice tarpon.

What he said. That size, with braid gives you a lot of flexibility.
I have a 3pc 8.6 tsunami that I have brought as well, and taken sharks to 75lb off the beach and mutton snappers to 18lb at night in the Bahamas. Haven't been back since 2009 (kids...)

If i were you i would bring my kayak and drive a little...
either head towards sanibel island, and fish pine island sound and the areas around sanibel and captiva...
or
head north to destin area, both albies and redfish run the coast in huge numbers january - february.

I host an AIRBNB for two bedrooms in my Newport home. If the reviews are good you should be OK. Some AIRBNB guest houses like mine have a separate and private entrances so you don't feel like your intruding in someone else's pad. Make sure you ask all these questions now before you book.
