Buyer Beware/NASE Advisory

Anyone self employed and dealing with NASE (national association of the Self Empolyed) and their obviously pourly trained salesman, LOOK OUT. One called me a few years back, sold me a change to their membership, specifically due to the what looked like on paper a better deal on health insurance.

Sure I paid only $375 a month (now $400) health premium and every emergency room visit was covered, but the guy also told us the family membership had a single deductable, which I selected at $7,500 to keep the monthly payments down. I had a very healthy family without any history of problems and based on income the $7,500 per year wasn't too bad a liability.

Well having a year of accidents, two hospital stays for me and one son, plus another surgery for my youngest recently, turns out I bought a $7,500 per insured (max 3) or a $22,500 liablity per year. Now that I'm looking for work, can you say ouch, I'm so pissed that they were (for the time being) able to get away with that s**t. I've got a copy of my application and the written policy that followed, nowhere does it state the $7,500 is per insured.

So buyer beware when dealing with NASE (National Association of Self Employed) or their health provider The Mega Life & Health Insurance Company, both Texas based companies. Not surprised to hear that the Mass. State Attorney Generals Insurance division knows all about both, so I've sent for the appropriate complaint forms.

This has been one hell of a year, can't wait for it to be over. I think I'm going fishing tomorrow afternoon, no time like the present and while I still own a boat.
