Best wood

I am new to plug making and I am wondering what type of wood is best to work with? Any help would be great. Thanks

alaskan yellow cedar. it doesnt need to be sealed, and it turns nice. good for swimmers and everything basically.
maple is good too, it does need to be sealed. good for poppers, darters, other stuff.

live to fish. fish to live. rod tips high.

Depends on what type of plug you are making and the action you want. AYC as Christian said is real good for Pikies and swimmer type plugs. I also like it for topwater, walk the dog type plugs. Red Cedar is also a good wood for these. Harder woods like maple and birch can be used for darters, needle, or poppers. Some also like basswood for swimmers and poppers. Its a whole lot lighter, so it takes more lead. Poplar can be used for a number of different plugs. You'll want to seal these woods. Experiment a little and you'll find what works best for you.
