Fall Fishing Dates - Legs et al..
OK We need to start getting some dates for the fall fishing S-B Tourney Legs!
We do have " The Surf Fishing Club Challenge" Friday , October 17,2003 at 6:00 PM. and end Sunday, October 19,2003 at 9:00 AM that we need to defend the title of VICTOR. If you recall, the efforts of Tattoo, The Habs Guy, & The Gas Hose Man to vaulted S-B from the pack into the lead to emerge victorious!
There is a Possible Tourney @ Block Island: Sept. 26, 27 & 28, 2003 for Shore & Boat Benefiting the National Children’s Cancer Society .
There is a closed trip to an island some time in September & October
So let's have it - whaddya think for dates?

I'll be doing a surfcasting weekend at the Old Town Inn on Block Island. It's the same weekend as the tournament (9/26, 9/27, 9/28).
Participants will get 2 shore trips with me (and a special guest) as guides. I'll be surfcasting from dusk to dawn, both days. I'll be staggering the trips into groups of not more than 3 people - each guided trip will be 3 hours long. Of course, you can fish all you want on your own too - but the guided trips should provide you with strong starting points and take a lot of the guesswork out of learning the island.
Innkeepers Dave & Lucinda Morrison will provide, coffee, breakfast and early dinners of island cusine.
It should be a good time - the Old Town Inn is a very nice place (for those who might like to bring non fishing wives) and that time of year is considered by many to be the most beautiful season.
Contact the Old Town Inn (401-466-5958) for price and availability.

I'll vouch for the Old Town Inn. Stayed there for several nights last November. The proprietors are super nice, the accommodations clean and spacious (first rate), and the breakfast was AWESOME. Definitely a place where you could take your spouse!!!
My stay coincided with last November's Noreaster - I was the only guest there - and I was praying that I would be stranded so that I could fish a little more. Unfortunately, the weather let up enough so that the ferries ran on Sunday night.

Primarily because we want the legs to be C&R but I'm open. We'd also have even MORE people in South County but then we'd win again I think, eh?

john, as always, there are several tournaments in ri in october. the dates you posted for "The Surf Fishing Club Challenge" were for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) tournament - oct 17-19. i'm sure you meant one in the same. i also have confirmed those dates. on october 24-26, the MSBA tri-state tournament rhode island leg will be going on. so far, those are theonly 2 major tournament i am aware of in ri. those are the usual 2 and most popular anyhow.
as far as adding your name to that trophy again this year, well, we'll see...don't sing it, bring it!

Glad to have ya Goose!
If you have never fished the Block you are in for a treat. Just do yourself a favor and get some Korkers and try to get some walking in before the date.

Sept 20 is good for fishing. October 11 is bad unless bad weather (too bright) . October 18 would be better.
I think we want to pick the best fishing weekends. Its nice to plan around everyone but then we get sucky weekends. Anyway , I'm a little grumpy right now and say the heck with them , lets fish the new moons!!

one thing you need to consider again john, and you did mention this, but i think some didn't notice it, is that the MDA is not a catch-and-release tournament like many of yours are. in the MDA, the 3 largest blues and 3 largest bass are totaled by weight and then added together to get the eventual club champion. there is also prizes for the largest single bass and blue weighed. just another thing to consider for others who may want to join to combine your tournament w/ the MDA on that weekend.
traditonally, the tri-state is only allowed to fish from the naps to the thrid parking lot at weekapaug. anglers need to be able to walk to fishing spots and not have to drive. i don't have the official rules in front of me for this year though. so, i don't think you'd have much of a problem that weekend as you would during the MDA weekend.
the moon is full on the 10th and new on the 25th. quarter moons mean low water around sunset. another couple things to consider.

Bumping this up again.
So, Is Sept 20 the date for Mass?
For the Rhody leg, do we really want to defend our title after eating veni burgers, 18 pounds of potato salad and of course strawberry short cake. We don't always fish as hard as could after these gatherings. Just another twist. For what it is worth, I think we should do it on different weekends.

How 'bout a poll!
JohnR, why don't you create a poll with all the open dates. Then we can poll on the dates and the date with the most votes win, that will create the largest group and I bet some of the people who voted for another date will still make it to the tourney.
