Anyone got a herring tank on their sled ?

I have like a 35 or so gallon plastic drum I want to make into a small herring tank for transport. I have a rack I am going to mount on the front of the sled already... Does anyone have any pics or suggestions as to how to make it.. On it's side is what I am thinking. I know I can come up with something that'll work but if someone has a proven design and doesn't mind sharing a little info, to save me some time I would appreciate it............. |

				 | you could use a front mounted receiver hitch. check with draw-tite or reese to see if they make one for your vehicle.then have a platform built to slide into the hitch. I have one for a cooler rack/ rod holders. that way you could get more use out of the receiver hitch if you wanted make a rod holder/cooler rack for the beach. The herring tanks I've made, I have only built 1 to lay on its side. I didn't like it. too much water banging from side to side=dead herring. I have seen many at the canal on the front of trucks that sit upright and then aerator/pump is wired to the battery or to the 9v. thru the front grill. |

				 | Chris, I use a 55 gal plastic drum, cut 1/3rd off the top. I trimmed the lid to fit back on. Like I said, I use the Keep-alive pump, glued it to a piece of slate to keep it on the bottom. Make sure you rig up some kind of drain, or use a pump to empty it. I can keep a doz. or so alive for quite a while, I change half the water everyday and keep it out of the sun. |
