SlipK & SaltH - canal drubbing
Made to the canal Sat morn - sunup to 8:00. Surprise ! I was all alone except for the mack fishermen - about five of them. Those guys are truly nuts.
4 ft. waves rolling right into the east end driven by a 30mph East wind. Warm though, about 50 degrees - a little drizzel.
No hits, no runs, no errors. But... you know that monster seal that's been hanging around Pip's since the begining of Sept. - He was there ! That damn beast is starting to look an awful lot like Saltheart. :P
I'm going to start probing the place for cod by the end of this month. I'll let you know. It's been 20 years since I've caught cod off the Scusset jetty and I didn't really appreciate it at the time. Damn , I'd love hitting cod there this winter !

I assume that seal was very handsome and intelligent looking?
BTW , when I was about 12 years old , I caught a cod off the west wall in matunick. Never again since.

SaltH : Oh yes, a very astute looking critter. Handsome, well groomed, nicely appointed. Orson Wellesian, almost.

LMAO... But I was fishing with him this weekend so I can certify that he was nowhere near there. Now if you saw the seal at Quintals...
Based on the near resident status of this seal, one must assume that he swims much like Saltheart drives, slow :P ... (Couldn't resist it, Salty) Of course, that is how he does many things; slow, unwavering, and meticulous...

Years ago there was quite a cod fishery in the Canal. Last time I got any was at least 10 years ago and Portague Hole was good for them and big flounder. Just this year my buddy dropped a big cod at the west end fishing the bottom. He thought he had weeds but it started to fight and lost it near the rocks. He said it was around ten lbs. and this was ocer a month ago! I think this winter we will see an inshore cod fishery like we had years ago.

Slow Driver! Actually , the first time I fished with Tim S and Charlie , I drove to NJ. There , I had to follow them from, spot to spot. After only one trip to one spot , They were complaining I drove toooo sloooow!! Oh well. There was a time when I would drive on the edge for hours on end. I use to be one of the guys who would check the speedometer , trip odometer , and the clock every 3 minutes to be sure I was maintaining a breakneck pace. I'm a little more mellow now .
Another thing I find funny myself is that despite not normally wearing my seat belt (dumb i know and I'm working on it) both Smokey and I always buckle up just before entering the Sagamore Rotary!! I guess our survival insticts kick in at that nut house.
BTW , I'm in classes all day today thru Thursday and have no access to a puter till after work. My oppurtunities to post wll be pretty limited this week.
