Newport Jerky Company
Will be open starting tomorrow. We opened over the weekend and did very well and can't wait or some good weather!! We are at 424 Thames st. If any of you guys stop in and I'm not there just mention s-b.com for 20% off. Facebook is up and running. Even though I hate it it's needed for the business. Hope to see some of you guys down there.

Tough time to be opening a business, especially now with tolls on both ends and the GA looking for more money.Sorry to come across as a pessimist but that is the reality of the situation.

As busy as we were this weekend I'm not worried about the tolls. I'll buy an easy pass and write it off on my taxes.

Basswipes points are valid, but Newport will always draw touristas from every corner of the globe. And when the cruise ships come in... Bazinga!!!
Tolls are only going to effect commuters and they will never detract from someone coming to visit Newport.

It's something like 60 ships. And the many timeshares bring in new faces every week.

The parking meters and the "parking Gestapo" that issues parking tickets do more to insure that people won't come back. That's a fact.

I'll be coming down with about 50 people for a bachelor party in September and I'll make sure NJC is on the agenda for us. Like Jay said, there's tons of people from the hotels and timeshares and they'll be walking by the store. Factor in the music festivals, boat show, 4th of July and everything else Newport does for tourism, and business should be great. I'll be in south county at some point this week. I'll try to swing by before heading home.

I grew up in Newport and I just moved back. Uggggg
If there is one thing about the town is the number of shops that come and go on lower Thames st... That said the ones that go under are the ones that either sold junk or mis managed their money in the winter.
A tip... You are going to probably sell 1/16th the product in February than you will in august.

I won't sell anything in February because I won't be open. I think it has to do with both junk and mismanagement of money

john Habs turned me on to good Jerky... oh man i can still taste it. it was lathered in beef fat. teriyaki strips.
Before Habs showed me the light, all i knew about Jerky was the crap in a bag you get at a super market... meh....
When i said "mis managed money" what i specifically meant was that new businesses would think that the money they made in the summer would be the same in the winter and not stash their nuts like a good squirrel to get them through the winter...

Have you had it? We had a couple in the shop over the weekend that were from Iceland. They said that they pretty much do it as a tourist joke. None of the new age people eat it. But their grand and great grandfathers ate it. I was told they sell it to tourists and laugh their azzes of after they leave. They bury it under the ground for months. I guess they make some good money on it but it's not a common thing to eat according to the cats that told us about it.
