I did that with one of mine that I kept as a backup in case my gas auger died. It actually works quite well. I let my son-in-law use it. He forgot to attach the safety lanyard I made for it, the drill chuck loosened and down the hole the auger went.

On one of those Alaskan shows on the discovery channel the son did that. Next scene the dad had him upside down, fully underwater holding his legs as he tried to get the auger back. He actually pulled it up.

This one was replaced with a gas Jiffy bought from Chris (sea dangles)...
