You guys are nerds.

Star Wars isn't nerdy. I'll even admit to helping my son with some of his Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar builds. Playing with the action figures at your age is a bit suspect, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Just another drill team flunkie who bears a striking resemblance to a young Peter Griffin. The saddest part of that video is that the kid is gonna someday realize that the video was when he peaked and it's all downhill from there.

You realize of course, that Tolkien believed that preserving nature and the dismantling of the military industrial complex were more important than gold, or paying less in tax, and that the quest for gold was the wellspring of much that is evil and corrupting?

Maybe a generation of young men under the crosses got a little short-changed in an unnecessary war-for-profit. But, on the bright side, it served as an allegory for some good writing, and it put silver spoons in the mouths of a handful of heirs.

Right, you got it. A World War was started under the pretext of a the assassination of a minor royal, but really to sell and test modern weaponry of the industrial age - on a ferocious scale. Not so much for us, but for the Europeans, it was devastating.
Hemingway didn't refer to it as the "Lost Generation" because of some kind of intellectual disillusionment - it was in reference to how many people were killed. Because in WWI units were still often raised, trained and fought among other men from the same city and town. So in some places, literally, whole generations of young men died.
