Bail Closure problem Solution!!!

I got the manual pick-up conversion kit for Penn 704 from Beachway B&T. While I was putting it on it dawned on me that all you need is take out the automatic bail closure part inside of the spindle.

I have lost many lures in the past because this problem.
No more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Instead of manually picking the line after you cast, all you need to do is just close the bail maually. I think this is even better than manual pick up because even you may have some slack on your line, the line will allways stay insde of the bail.

oops!

dondkim buddy,
The ramp on the internal trip,(part of the bearing retainer) raises the bail release which allows the bail to flip over- you can't do without the retainer and if you take out the release I believe you'd have to take out the bail springs or it won't stay open. Then, if the line is'nt directly under the roller, the bail could open on a strike- I think you'd be better off with the conversion kit.

Successful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I successfully changed two Daiwa reels to non auto bail reels by just turning the bail trip over and kept the spring in original place.
