Red Cedar
I have been making metal lip swimmers out of Red Cedar ballisters. Cost $1.95 per 3 foot stick. Is there a problem using Red Cedar that I should be aware off? I haven't seen anyone talking about it and it is, cheap and readily available. Seems to turn real well and holds the finish well also. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

piemma, works good but just soft so teeth stick it easy etc. Can see grain lines etc in the plug sometimes too.

Salty:
Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that the stock is very soft. I will try and pick up some AYC. I hear that that a lumber yard in Taunton/Rehobeth has some.

Thanks for all of the answers. I am going to pickup some AYC tomorrow and turn a couple of Dannys. BTW, there are still fish in RI. I posted a pic of a 19lb I got recently in Narragansett.

Fish came from Great Island Bridge, the inside. I fished the Channel this morning with no luck but I stopped by Sprague Bridge and there were Blue Herons there picking at bait.

Paul, Liberty Cedar in Kingston has AYC ballisters (1-1/2 x 1-1/2) as well as rough cut 2X if you want to rip, if thats closer for you. I'm doing an addition, and needed to order clapboards --- inquired about the AYC and got a sample. Not sure of price for comparison.
When did you get the fish? I need one bad
