Piping Plovers
This was spawned by a thread in the grumpy old farts section... Eben prefers to use them Live, but I'm a plugger; and my gf says I have too much time on my hands....
All my plovers in a row...

The Piping Plover Lure, or as Eben called them; Popping Plovers..
Use for Stripers, Bluefish, or that elusive over zealous environmentalist that has enough time on their hands to baby sit a bird all day... I'ts important to note that I am on the left, and I am an environmentalist to a certain point, but I'm also a big fan of not closing beaches, specially for a small, non-native bird... Ok, climbing off my soapbox....

I have to dig up a pic I took on top of some mountain in Western Mass; carved into a tree (deeply I might add) was "PETA Rocks"
Short of carving it in a deer, that kinda defined irony for me....

The funny thing is.... if you put some lead in the belly and it sits right, you will catch bluefish with it..

Beachwalker..... Yes, there is a distinct method to livelining plover. First and formost, you have to find a hole off the beach with a bar that is wadable on the outside of the hole..
The following is taken from Frank Daignault's life's work... "Plover Surf"
"What you do is cast your plover into the wash and let it flutter in about 3 feet of water. The retrieve is similar to a needlefish. Slow and steady, letting the trashing of its wings do the work for you.. Now in the plover off season, us Swamp Yankees use Rhode Island rigged plovers. Rigging plovers is pretty much like rigging an eel, except you have to make certian that the plover is fresh. A gamakatsu plover-pus 6/0 live bait hook stuffed through its beak is the normal set up for ploving... I prefer to use a teaser made from california condor tail feathers, and sprinkle a little spotted owl blood on as an attractant."

The best way to use this lure is to chuck it into some yuppy beach bar and retrieve slowly. A great way to empty a full bar.
