I think I'm missing something here......What's the hidden meaning of it?
I know "A mind is a terrible thing to Waste" but that warning wasn't around when the Damage was done.

Lapinski is correct.
Why would me being an Independent "offend" someone?
Or are you suggesting the Maltese Cross is "offensive". If so, then I guess the Celtic Cross is "offensive" as well. The Shamrock too
If I'm told to remove it by the Admin., I will do so, no problem

I'm not sure about now, but Independant Trucks were top of the line in the early 80's. They were all I used. Never thought of the symbolism though. In fact I first thought that Mr. Macey was talking about a Northern Ireland vs. Ireland thing.

Yeah, Indy trucks rule. All I ever used were Independent trucks. I skated when I was younger. Late 80's until about '94 I think. Some of the best years of my life. I use the logo because I am Independent.
As far as symbols go, just because one group of people use a symbol for their agenda, doesnt make it "bad". And the people who try to teach you that certain symbols are "bad", are hatemongers themselves, theyre just a little more incognito about it.
The ADL might say a Maltese Cross is "bad" and "evil", lol, but the ADL is a criminal racket, runned buy special interest Zionists.
I think what happens, is some people are indocrinated with half-truths and whole lies, and they dont do the research for themselves. So they see a symbol of say, something from the Old World like Thors Hammer, or in this case, a Maltese Cross, and they say "oh no, I was taught that is bad! Your evil!". Get outta my face.
Seems just about everyone here has made their mind up about me anyway, so I could care less what people think. They yelp "dont hate", then hate their own kind for their beliefs. Hypocritical theses. It boggles the mind. I've done the research. I embrace my culture, and I know where I'm from, and I am proud of it. Most arent.
Anyhow, no, dont drink like I used to lol. I got a sensitive gut, so I take it easy these days. I'll drink a few on the weekends. But yeah, I usually have some beers when I go down to the trestle. Couple coldies are a good thing

Can't we all just get along
The Maltese Cross
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The badge of a fireman is the Maltese Cross. This Maltese Cross is a symbol of protection and a badge of honor. Its story is hundreds of years old.
When a courageous band of crusaders known as the Knights of St. John, fought the Saracens for possession of the holy land, they encountered a new weapon unknown to European warriors. It was a simple, but a horrible device of war, it wrought excruciating pain and agonizing death upon the brave fighters for the cross. The Saracen's weapon was fire.
As the crusaders advanced on the walls of the city, they were struck by glass bombs containing naphtha. When they became saturated with the highly flammable liquid, the Saracens hurled a flaming torch into their midst. Hundreds of the knights were burned alive; others risked their lives to save their brothers-in-arms from dying painful, fiery deaths.
Thus, these men became our first firemen and the first of a long list of courageous firefighters. Their heroic efforts were recognized by fellow crusaders who awarded each here a badge of honor - a cross similar to the one firemen wear today. Since the Knights of St. John lived for close to four centuries on a little island in the Mediterranean Sea named Malta, the cross came to be known as the Maltese Cross.
The Maltese Cross is your symbol of protection. It means that the fireman who wears this cross is willing to lay down his life for you just as the crusaders sacrificed their lives for their fellow man so many years ago. The Maltese Cross is a fireman's badge of honor, signifying that he works in courage - a ladder rung away from death.

Gentlemen, this is a fine example of what makes Striped-Bass.com the great site it is. An honest , intellegent, and open discussion to maintain our common ground. In other sites this would have turned into a b*t*h festival. But here we all walk away better informed. Makes me proud

ok let me tell you where I come from with this
this is me personally only me that when i came on here and seen that "independent cross" the first thing I saw was a disguised hate symbol Growing up during the early 70s I was in JR High school during Judge Auther Garrities Brainstorm to desegragate schools forced bussing there was alot of that crap "Symbols" instilled in my mind I was 13 after growing up and joining the service I overcame my sterotyping of people I have a lot of resentment about those days at what soceity did to us but it made me into a better person today for it so if anyone remembers those days of bussing and desegragation Knows how I could have made this error INDEPENDENT is a skateboarding company and Johnny Im sorry for jumping the gun but I can tell you one thing to end the story If someone were in state prison and had that as a tattoo They would be locked in the Gang unit as a white supremist Guaranteed.

mrmacy, don't think you should have to apologize, you saw a symbol from the past which brought up strong emotions and you said your piece. It's funny how someone on page one said you are older and don't realize that it's a skateboarding symbol, well , it works the other way too, it's cool to be bad , all the big companies know this , so they take a symbol that may tick some people off and use it for their company (just like West Coast Choppers does ) cause that's cool. johnny "tRB"

I understand where you're coming from mrmacey. That busing fiasco was the absolute worst. My most vivid memory is of a photo of a white young man trying to spear a black man with the American flag on it's standard. What struck me in that photo was what hate can do to you. It can make you desecrate what you hold most dear. I have no room or time for hate.

Here is an essay I did for english at age 43 when I went back to school.
RACISM
MICHAEL J. QUISH
Racism in America. How the subject hurts when spoken because it brings me back to the most repugnant times in my life. Racism has been around me all my life. I consider myself an expert on the subject having lived with this ugly situation through my young childhood, school years, military life, and I watch it happen around me now every day.
We stare at racism everyday in ways that we don’t even see. We are so used to hate and discrimination in our lives the bad feelings that over come us just pass us by. I feel each and everyone us discriminate or dislike some group or party because of their affiliation, culture or because of their oppression. If you are capable of being totally open and honest you will see some racisms in your self that can be looked at and changed, but only if your willing to go deep within and work on the issues that affect you.
Black, white, yellow, tan, or whatever your color is, that part of racism will be here and never go away. It’s the discrimination against groups that I see growing and have become more of a concern to me. It is the hate crimes against gays, the discriminations against woman with children on welfare, the stereo-typing of felons who have served there time to society and not given a chance to have a good job cause of there title felon. Let us look at the aids issue. How can one not feel something knowing there could be a man or woman with an infectious disease sitting beside you? The list goes on and on and I feel each and every one of us has to take a look at our lives to really feel what racism is. Or are these feelings only within myself?
Racism is not the black and white issue that everyone thinks it is. Racism in our lives is everything, which causes us to form an opinion about someone with out empathy or putting ourselves in those person’s shoes. I look at the rich donating a little help thinking they are doing good then they turn around and walk by a homeless man knowing damn well they don’t want to be in his shoes. Most of us see a homeless person as one who cannot and will not stand on his or her own two feet. Not really understanding about the issues behind homelessness; drug addiction, mental illness, etc…
This essay is only my opinion. It is the way I see racism and discrimination. The whole heart felt feeling I get when I hear people say, “I am not a racist”. It is those that I am weary of and would bet they cannot look me in the eye and say that. If you don’t run in those groups of the sick, oppressed and color then you are different and can’t see or feel what the group as a whole is feeling. You need the compassion to be able to put yourself in their place. It is then you will know racism as they see it. If you have never lived the life of a racist, how do you know what a racist is? Do you derive your answers from what a book told you? Well I have black friends, that statement is a racist remark. Welfare mothers is a racist remark, anytime we have to put a name in front of a class of people to distinguish them from one another that’s racism.

Macy,
For a writer that guy needs English lessons. All racism is discrimination, but not all discrimination is racism. I would have though that anyone who graduated from high school knew the difference.
