Funny/Weird boating stories

Someone sent this to me in an email a few weeks ago, and I don't know if this could possibly be true, or if it is just another boating "urban myth."

Two guys were launching their boat, and the boat owner was aboard tending the engines and trim while his buddy backed the boat into the water. The boat drifted nicely away from the ramp, the "mate" parked the truck and boarded the boat.

But no matter how high they revved the engine, the boat simply would not make way, even after trying all trim and throttle positions. The engine seemed to run fine. They limped into the nearby marina and had the guys at the marina take a look. They checked the fuel lines, trimmed up the engine and examined the prop, etc. etc. but could find nothing amiss.

Finally (being a nice day), one of the marina attendents jumped into the water to inspect the boat, only to surface a moment later in hysterics, having gone under the boat, only to find it still strapped down tightly to the trailer.

Can this be true?

Yeah, it's probably not true. But I've seen people do some very stupid things at boat ramps

yeah, i belive it! i've seen it!
go to the public ramp, in newburyport, on a nice weekend, and watch the "boat ramp pro's", you'll see al kinds of things.
it's awesome to see the knuckleheads come barreling into the dock at full speed, then shut the engines down, and then yell at there buddy's for not keeping the boat from slaming into the dock.or the guy thats sideways in between the two ramps who can't figgure out how to put the drive down.
while the guy next to him is dragging his skeg plate up the ramp 'cause he forgot to raise the trim.and the guy next to him is yelling at his wife 'cause the truck is slowly rolling into the river!

We would need an entire website to cover mishaps at the boat ramp.
I've seen 3-4 boats dropped on the ramp. (Guess they shoulda kept it on the winch)
Saw one sunken cadillac with trailer, (as the boat floated away).
Watched a guy beat the crap out of his trailer cause the wheels went off the edge into the mud. He gunned it so hard he tore the trailer in half. CLosed that side of the ramp for 1/2 the day. Other people got mad !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plenty of "bumper boats" fun at the crowded ramp.

Saw a couple of guys a few years ago launching their boat. One guy was in the boat and when other backed the trailer down far enough, the boat began to float off the trailer .... and away from shore. He asked the other what he should do and was told, just start it up. What, no keys ? Oh, yea. Here they are in my pocket, Catch.

You guessed it, he missed and the keys landed in about 10' of water. Time to drop anchor and start diving.

I'm assuming they eventually found them. Fortunately, it was a quite ramp on a lake.

thats true. I have a 14 foot john boat that i take out to the lake fishing and since i dont own a trailer i merely shove it into my van or blazer to go to the lake thats a 1/4 mile away. So the idea is with in 25 minutes i can be fishing. So a typical day i head down to the lake and launch and take off heading for my spots when i started to turn around to switch from paddling from the front to using the trolling motor in the rear as the weeds were way to thick near the ramp. Well i started to loose my balance and grabbed my fold over seat back to steady myself and it came loose and i pulled it up and off where it mounts so the boat tips
and over the side i go "kaploosh". man was i pissed. Soaking wet and no longer in the mood to fish i turned around mad as hell zoomed home and literally thru that boat out of my vehicle onto the lawn and went storming into the house. Well after showering off the algae, slime and aquatic critters i had perhaps four or five beers and was sitting there watching old BIll Dance on TV until i finally regained my composure. Then it became funny to me, so i re-loaded the boat, went back and had a super afternoon of Bassin

I luv watch people on funniest home video's bustin their a$$'s at the dock , flipping over their canoe's and kinds of tackle floating around them or people streched with one leg on the dock and one on the boat.....I die laughin every time

Once I was down the east end of the canal ramp and as I leaned over to turn the boat around my car keys fell outa my pocket into the dark drink.....It wicked suxed and I wasn't laughin.

Here's one I posted a long time ago.

I was fishing a tourny with my buddy last season. We only had about 2 hours left and we were trying everything and everywhere to score a "weigh in". With very little time left we headed for a favorite rockpile on the way back to the dock.
This same trip, my wife was on a tyraid and had called me on the cell at least 6 times during the day. I was quite fed up.
So we are at this spot its blowing 20mph, huge boat wakes and I'm manuvering around a rockpile under power, while my buddy is flipping live bait into the wash..... The phone rings again.....The caller ID tells me its her again. I was pissed and threw the phone onto the dash without answering, and proceeded to call her every name in the book.
What I didn't know was when I threw the phone down I had pressed a key and it picked up. So there she was on the other end hearing a litany of curses. I had some major splaining to do later when I called her back....

first of all .... Wife ,,, don't be calling me 7 times while i'm in a fishing tournament....i'll call you when i able to. Second of all when your out in the ocean dealing with a 20 mile an hour wind you can't be answering the damn phone every time it rings because its extremely disruptive to the enjoyment i'm seeking. Thirdly
if you ever do it again this F%#$@*N phone number will be off limmits to you unless its an extreme emergency and in that case i suggest you call 911. I need my space out there so when i return home i'm glad to see you again and if not i would have insisted that you come with me whether you liked the idea or not. I'm not a dog on your leash that you can tug on any time you feel like it.
If your lonely then go out to a girly bar or go shopping again and buy some more things on sale that we don't really need. When i'm fishing i'm on a quest and i cannot give up or quit until i'm satisfied. If you don't like those terms to friggan Bad. STAND your ground and Just say: " thats the way it is so live with it. "

some things are worth fighting ABOUT and fishing is one of em. Then after she storms out , clean the whole house like mr clean on steroids so she has nothing to do except sit.

announce that your building a much bigger man cave and buying a bigger boat and starting a fishing tackle buisness right in the living room so she better get used to the idea and fast.

My favorite is when she calls when I'm out there and asks.

One small thing in her defense, she was going through a real hard time when this happened, and had a nasty job interview that day. I did my best to listen for the first 5-6 phone calls. But that was the limit..

oh... hi ... Honey.... how.. ya doing?....hey , if your going to the store later could ya pick me up some more tanning lotion. I've been oiling down these hawaian tropics girls all afternoon and i'm almost out of it.
I Meant no offense to the little lady Van ..just a bit irritable today after a minor skirmish with my own lovely sweet wife of 32 years and had to vent with humour intended.

but, in reality sometimes fishing to a man is as important as is a wedding gown on her wedding day is to a woman, for the short time we're out there pursuing the american (striper) dream.

I try to never forget for even a moment (unless i'm really pissed off) that i wouldn't be walking this planet earth if not for the major sacrifice of a woman (my dear Mother) and should always with humility show them the ultimate respect.

I like that hawaian tropic girl thing, I WILL use that this year.

Sometimes I think,,,too bad she didn't like fishing, then she could go with me.
But then I think that,,,,this is MY time to get away from normal stress and have some peace and quite. "ALONE"
I think its better that way.
